Console Epiphany

I wanna take the time to write a new rhyme
About the kinda things that I find
Near and dear to my own heart
For I love many different kinds of art
But where to begin? The list is so long
Maybe this'll be another Soulflo song
So a scoob-a-de-doo and a scee-ba-de-de
Just shuffle your feet and dance to the beat
Or if ya don't wanna get outta your seat
Then come along with me for another story
I said a 1-2 1-2 and 3 the console scene is very dear to me
I was a little boy don't remember how old
Upstairs in the middle of night I was awoke
By the sound of something downstairs
A skip-a-de-da I went to see what was there
Whoa-ho-ho! I almost fell as I crept down the stairs and looked around
The corner of the wall, what did I see?
A cloud of smoke my mother and three
People stairin at the TV screen
They were actually engaged in two tasks
The cloud of smoke was representative of that
My child's mind couldn't understand
What it was they were doing man
Inhale exhale bibbity blow
I know now what they were doing yo
A puff puff pass is a golden rule
It enhances life and it's medicinal too
Cool vibes floatin on a Doobie-de-do
But I don't wanna get into that right now
Cuz on the TV screen a man was running around
Clouds with eyes, mushroom men running around breakin blocks with his head
"We bought it for us" is what she said
But she kept dying on the first goomba man
That night that changed my life as I peeked around the corner
My eyes were fixated by the corded controller
A Flippity flap and a flick of the thumbs and the man on the screen jumps and runs
Super Mario brothers was the name of the game and a skip-a-de-do it blew my mind away
Hip hip hooray and a yippi-a-de-yay!
What can I say? my life changed that day
A hey hey hey you know it's true that I'd be lying to you if I said it was new
Atari games I played in my step dads room
I honestly didn't think it was the best
The games didn't end and where was the quest?
Guess I need a story to hold my interest
But this little grey box called the NES
Had quests galore! It was the bibbity best!

Now here I am a man sittin in his house
Writing this jivin jam about the past
A tippy tap of my feet I feel the groovy beat
As I dance to the rhyme in my mind in my seat
Whoosh and swoosh! Zim zam zoom!
Something appears in the back of the room
A ripple in time! It blows my mind
A lookie-loo to see to find that time rewinds
What in God's name?!
It's really really strange!
That's me in the 80's playing video games
And I find I gotta step inside
Can I bring the games back in time for this rhyme?
Throwin down the pen, steppin into the void
Sight disappears and pop I'm a boy!
Dontcha know it was just as seen
But I'm not at home not in the 80s
I was transported inside the TV
Being controlled by the boy Matty
I gotta help him beat this game alive
If I wanna get back to my own time
So here we go and let's begin
In 200X Dr Light created
A mega rockman from a little kid
He was a cyborg built to defend
The world!
And to foil Dr Wiley's plan
An iron hand grips the earth in fear
Out of the darkness eight robots appear
Each with a power made quite clear
This one's for your ear, their names are right here
Metal man, heat man, wood man, flash man
Bubble man, quick man, air man, crash man
Pausing the game in a rage a broken toy
This may have been hard when I was boy
But maybe that's the reason I entered the void
To the annoyed little Matty this game was new
But ya see, to me, it was yesterdays news
Mattys got the blues cuz he threw his pad
Across the room now he's feeling real bad
Now here I am I can't move the games paused
A floating dragon in the dark at Wiley's castle
Is gonna appear when he hits unpause
But what happens to me if he turns the game off?
Looking at the past from inside the TV
I see the young me coming up to the screen
Curiosity is the look in his eyes
I think he realized I'm trapped alive inside!
Skip to ma loo! I'm a goddamn fool
He didn't realize a thing, he's gonna turn it off
Maybe my journey through times at an end?
Over before it starts it didn't even begin.
Time slows to a halt as the button is pressed
And just as I guessed here's the darkness

What is the meaning? What can I achieve?
Holdin on to the childhood make believe?
It's good to be a child but I gotta understand
That I gotta have a plan if I wanna be a man

I awake at 3 am with a pain in my head
Gotta be at work in a few hours, damn
Then, what did it mean this dream that I had seen?
Am I living my life in a world of make believe?
An epiphany the dream had shown me
I now see the fine line between
Living my life and being stuck in the past
If I'm looking behind then the future can't last
and it blasts past me but I don't even see
that my futures destiny is history.
But it's never too late to take a stand
Live life in the now and be my own damn man
Or to put it plain right here in this rhyme
To live your best life you gotta look inside
But don't focus on one or look too hard cos the heart can grow and the soul can go far.
If we spend all our time doing only one thing
How can we ever achieve our dreams
Cos we're all connected spiritually
And we create our destiny
We gotta share it if we want the world to see
For me,
The console games changed my life
But I spent too much goddamn time inside
Never realized that I never even tried
To share my heart and soul with the earth
A feeling I have nursed since the time of birth
So let us traverse to why I started this song
I was writing about games all along
Here's a real quick rhyme before the end
About a little thing I call a lifelong friend

Pirahna flower dead down the green pipe
Clutched in my hand the ocarina of Time
Coming outta the pipe I think I see a sign
Welcome to Silent hill man it blows my mind
Belmont's whip is laying on the ground
I turn to pick it up and hear a funny sound
A little strange pink ball just a running around
Being chased by a big fat bird?
A race to eat cakes man this scenes absurd!
They rush past me and the music stops
I turn around and the fog opens up
One four oh point eight five
I gotta get outta this fog alive
Call the number on my codec
Whaddya think that the Colonel replied?
"Snake, like Shakespeare said:
"Nought's had, and all is spent,
Where our desire is got without content." Basically, it means
That your desire can get you into
trouble if you're not careful"
That didn't help and what the hell?
Sounded like a crazy man in a padded cell
The fog closes in all around
But I'm not scared and I don't make a sound
Cos if I die I'll use my Phoenix down
The fog disappears as I enter kings field
I guess the dark souls here really spread the fear
I stumble upon a giant mechinised gear
Looking like a robot really strong
The pilot of the gear named Fei Fong Wong
Tryin to fight a god from outer space?
Man, i gotta get the hell outta this place
Trapped in here with all of the games
That I loved growing up this is really strange
But I gotta understand that it's just my mind
Or else I will end up stuck inside
Then life passed me by and I realized
I can't play the ocarina in real life!
