As you postulate
inappropriate time and place
to address this turpitude
you ignorantly embrace
when death is commonplace
we hold our breath
and brace
for loss you cannot erase
with attempts to reface
through lies you interlace

nothing will efface

We had a mass shooting back in the 90's here in Australia and our government, which happened to be the conservative party like your Republican, immediately banned all automatic weapons and most handguns...we still have shootings now and again but they are bike gangs etc...but not a single mass shooting since, that doesn't mean we wont have one again because you can't stop all the crazy folk, but it's not bad. This is a powerful and poignant poem Mel, heartfelt ink of the highest order.

Thanks Harry. I am horrified. The debate is nonsense. The NRA is in control. No one is saying ban ALL guns...not that I would mind...but what purpose is there in having automatic assault rifles other than for mass shootings. They are military guns, that is what they were designed to do. In Florida, you do not need a background check, a license or even a permit; you do not need to register that you bought a gun nor is there is a limit on the number you can purchase and you are not required to undergo training of any kind. Where is the sense in that? And the suggested solution...arm the teachers. Brilliant! More guns. There is something inherently wrong. Again, horrified.

beautifully written piece I enjoyed this work I have to say though I am not convinced by either side. I live in a country where all guns are illegal yet I could go to Glasgow tomorrow and purchase a gun with little difficulty
it seems sensible to ban all guns but it's a bit like trying to un-invent the wheel especially in the USA

Politics are not a regular subject matter but when I am "struck" by a topic, I often have a strong opinion and need to get it out.
