A Look Back on the Dangers of Love
I don't ache for your affection anymore
I chose to let go of that deep desire
I let love flow out until there was none left to pour
So you could no longer light my heart on fire
But sometimes I think about the heat of your flames
And the passion they always seemed to ignite
I would glow with desire from from the depth of my veins
And an outside display revealed your grip on me tight
My smile was made to burn through your soul
While my body was yours to have as you pleased
These hands and lips were under your control
And my heartbeat moved to the rhythm of your needs
One word in that tone and lust would flow
Don't even think you knew how deep
You took me exactly where you wanted to go
With little effort love would seep
I'd have done most anything you requested
And took care of your precious heart as well
Because I wanted to help you be at your best
And keep falling with you after I fell
I bled rivers of true devotion
Blood you never cared to find
I did all I could to show it
But it was just emotion left behind
I had trust in romantic magic
And belief in binding soul fabrics
Idealistic thinking is a dangerous habit
Unrequited feelings are always tragic
I was held without the warmth of an embrace
Still hot liquids kept the cold at bay
I wanted to believe love was somewhere encased
To take me to great and far from okay
But hope is never a safe place to rest
It's a bed for fools with a love craving patch
Blankets woven by waste of time threads
And pointless tear stained pillows to match
Where potential lingers in deceptive sheets
As they carry the scent of what could be and should
Masking the knowledge of what will never be
Because if a heart wanted to be yours, it would
And you don't know what you had
I suspect you never will
I was a soft place to put your hands
A warm place to get your fill
I was a safe space to turn to
But not enough to entirely fulfill
When they don't care for or appreciate you
They'll leave with an arctic run and kill
I chose to let go of that deep desire
I let love flow out until there was none left to pour
So you could no longer light my heart on fire
But sometimes I think about the heat of your flames
And the passion they always seemed to ignite
I would glow with desire from from the depth of my veins
