Jerusalem

Why do we look for a god in Church ?
Thought I'd found one singing hymns of adoration
rhyming verses metered to fit the tunes.
Don't think we ever read the poems,
but the tunes were good !
Bach and Wesley; learnt more of counter-point
when singing in the choir than a way to heaven.
The tunes distracted, often hid the message .
Think of Blake's Jerusalem he never meant what
Parry wrote,an anthem to sing on Speach-Day
or' Last Night-of-the-Proms '
I read Blake's work,wish I could write as he
think I know what he intended when I walk
upon England's pastures green
looking for God and heaven
with my bow of gold and arrows of desire
in England's green and pleasant land
