Mincepies (A festive poem)
Take the reindeer,
the sleighs,
the snowflakes,
the wrapping paper,
the red envelopes,
the gift vouchers,
the decorated trees,
the mulled wine,
the ecstatic children,
the late-night-shopping trips,
the santa costumes,
midnight mass,
the pantomimes,
the seasonal feature films
and television specials,
the elf helpers,
all memories of christ,
the queen's speech,
the tinkling of bells,
Mr. Robin Redbreast
and the nights by the fire...
Take them all,
throw them to the wolves,
but leave me
a fucking mincepie.
