Love

Its grown strange to recall
The way my heart would fall.
How the moment you and I met
Was a paradise I will not forget.

It is getting harder to pretend
That I am some prince of shades
How reluctantly I watch that night end
And the way that heartache fades.

A little birdie told me, “Love is not enough.
When its darkness you are missing.”
Its getting hard to play make-believe,
As the flowers have wilted in my spring.
I want to build a castle for you, my king.

Perhaps love is just enough...
To break the heart of sorrow...
But I am still trying to be pure
As in the seeds through days of yore.
But every day I am slipping into tomorrow
And I adore the new wings that soar.

Its easy to believe that someday
The world will roll without me,
But the seasons will not let me play
The same as you who are free.
I'm not saying joy can kill
I'm not saying happiness is ill—
But I've never been so intoxicated.
It warms me and I forget the chill.

The bells are ringing with your name,
I whisper, “I love you” and you say the same.
For all the breaking and the going down
For all the times I swore I must drown
Your kiss is a rose to my sigh,
A rose that will gladly reply
And I am happy for your shine,
I never knew midnight could be wine
Until I held you—such a lovely drought
From the new spring tide you have brought.
The ghost within is silent for you and I
And I swear he will not rise until the day I die.
