her

kiss the weeping dawn
who sheds tears on the sunset
of your heart
as the last I love you is uttered

and you remember it above all others
because it was final
you knew in your soul
those beautiful words would never again
be whispered in your ear

not by him
the only him that mattered
he took a piece of you
when he left

captured your passion
and bottled it like a perfume
so he could wear it
when he needed to remember
what it was like to be desired
above any other man

so he could feel
for just a moment
like a real man
loved by a real woman
deeply, passionately
with hunger, no hesitations

I feel your pain
having tasted love so great
memories of her haunt you
her taste, her smell and touch
the way she felt beneath your body
the way you fit just right

a once in a lifetime kind of love
tasting it only in memory
hurts more than dying
death is final
being separated from your soulmate
are little deaths
you continually succumb to

better to have never tasted it at all
than live with the loss
of her, the only woman
you were more than enough for

*for all lovers separated from their soulmates
