Deadly Theatre

Faithful thespian giving all
Your performance is ringing stale
More than once I saw it all
Yet you continue to repeat your tale
I wonder if you realize
Sincerity is felt in fresh magic
The oldness of the act belies
Threadbare meaning in the tragic
You crave laughter or praise
Grave silence or applause
If you will pass this phase
Find the moment's magic cause
Don't sell it short in your rehearsal
Too long dwelling on the old
Brings audience role reversal
If you lose your magic act
How then will you adapt
To thespian-audience tact?
