Open Letter To My Children

   
   
I nurtured you from infancy  
sang you lullabies  
showed you the path  
harmony with all things  
tried reaching you  
with abundant beauty  
to calm and sooth  
your tortured soul  
yet in return you    
shred the heart of me  
fouling life giving blood  
and ravage my gifts  
I weep acid tears  
they fall toxic  
eating away at my being  
a shadow of the before  
 
   
you tell me how much you care  
while tearing into my flesh  
choking me in polluted air  
taking pleasure in your theft  
 
but, I stay my ground,  
in staunch resistance  
wavering little    
to your relentless insistence    
assaults and insults    
to my very existence  
   
I shall bide my time  
and await in wise  
aware flawed ways  
will be your demise  
   
I will forget you  
wipe my memory clean  
for nothing you have done  
shall later be seen  
   
And maybe, perhaps  
within time that will pass  
my future offspring  
shall not be such an ass  
   
   
   
   
you,  
   
you animal,  
   
who call yourself
