Image for the poem Maxie

Maxie's Wreck

Maxie went to the wedding, mumbling low
Drank champagne, went with the flow
Tangoed with the blushing bride
Who declined his offer for a ride

He drops by the local dive
Where gut-bucket blues is featured live
A barfly beauty takes his hand
A knowing smile for the band

They'll never see a wedding day
Tonight's dream queen will never stay
They reflect on a brief but lurid trek
As they get lost, and take his wreck.
