The Fall of Ideals Ch. 1

Chapter 1

I’m running through a cold, desolate forest, all the trees around me are stripped bare.
A wolf howls close behind me, I’m beginning to feel despair.  
The snow on the ground is thick, I struggle to remain on my feet.
I sense the beast behind me closing in, but death I wish to cheat.
It’s a good thing I’m packing heat,
but killing a starving wolf hunting desperately for a meal is no easy feat.  

I take a quick glance behind me, come eye to eye with the wolf closing in.
His eyes lock in on mine, I swear he flashes me a grin.
I quickly turn back around where I trip over a log and fall down a steep hill.
I hit the bottom with a sickening thud as the wolf moves over me looking to kill.
Showing no fear, I face the beast eye to eye.
He shows me his fangs and growls, telling me it’s time to say goodbye.
The wolf stands up on his hind legs, he’s a good six feet.
Saliva drips from his mouth down the side of his face as he gets ready to eat.
His eyes are green and his body beginning to bald.  
He’s a sight that leaves me feeling appalled.  

He drops down to all fours and slowly moves in for the kill.
He’s taunting me, finding this hunt to be a thrill.
He licks his chops thinking he’s about to get his fill.
I pull out my gun and point it at him, I won’t go down standing still.
I pull the trigger and shoot the beast,
Which causes for a moment his movement to draw to a cease.
I jump back up and continue to run refusing to become a feast.
The wolf howls at me since he’s anger towards me as now increased.

I dart back and forth between dead, rotting trees.
I wish every day survival would become more of a breeze.
Survival is difficult in this day and age.,
an age of extinction brought on by mankind’s rage.
I often wish I would have died…
back when I had the chance…
but I left everything behind to save myself and set out on my own.
I’m no longer even in the same time zone.

I see a town up ahead, I need to get there fast,
hopefully then this day won’t become my last.
The wolf leaps forward, seemingly flying through the air, and hits me in the back hard.
I once again hit the ground with a sickening thud completely caught off guard.
The wolf jumps on top of me and sticks its fangs into my left arm.
I scream out in agony hoping I’m sending out an alarm.
I grab for my gun but the wolf knocks it away with his paw.
The wolf turns me onto my back and places his paw on my throat slashing my throat with his claws.
His eyes lock on mine, once again he’s beginning to mock.
My death being nigh sure seems to be a lock.
The wolf bites down harder as I moan in pain.
He lies down hard onto my chest; he wants my life to slowly drain.
He knows exactly what he’s doing deep inside that twisted mind.
He wants me to die, but first he wants me to experience excruciating pain.

The beast lets go of my arm and locks onto my collar,
Then begins to drag me back into the forest when all of a sudden I hear a holler.
The wolf turns around where we spot a group of people
whom by appearance don’t seem to be so peaceful.
There’s six in all, all with their guns up and directed at the beast.
They tell him to let me go or become deceased.

The wolf lets go of my collar and growls in defeat,
He knows he just lost a nice plate of meat.
He turns back and to the forest he retreats.
I take a deep breath, for a minute I thought I was beat.


Note:  I stated working a novel written in poetry form awhile back and while I've stopped working on it to work on other projects I do want some feedback on at least the first few chapters to see if its something worth eventually going back to so if you read this please leave me your honest feedback.
