Love has no answer

Lust will not question if someone conspires
to feel no pleasure, though it digs so deep.
Why should love fight lust? Tearless, should love weep
to find lust leaves you emptied of desires?

Once lust has had its fill and love expires,
you might as well lie still. Though told to keep
alert to every consequence, you'll reap
all the denials heedless lust requires.

Lust would consume your heart, your hopes, your health,
so leave you broken: shattered to the core.
Its appetites will wait on good digestion.

Love has no answer. Though you have a wealth
of emptiness to fill, love can't make sure
that lust is always quelled, so cannot question.
