Cassi Mae

For the past month or two
I felt you kick me in my side
I count each and every day
Until I’ll finally meet you
Sometimes, I get scared
But at same time I feel so alive
I hope no one noticed, l almost broke down
The first time I saw your face on the ultrasound

You’ve got your momma’s eyes
And your grandma’s smile
It came at no surprise
That you have my heart
Cause you stole it on that day
The first time I heard it beat, Cassi Mae
Oh Cassi Mae

I drove so fast, I couldn’t get here none too soon
I’m so nervous standing here in this delivery room
I’m trying to be tough, but it’s hard with tears rolling down my face
God just gave me a piece of heaven wrapped in lace
When the nurse placed you in my trembling arms
I touched your face and surrendered to all of your charms

You’ve got your momma’s eyes
And your grandma’s smile
It came at no surprise
That you have my heart
Cause you stole it on that day
The first time I held you in my arms, Cassi Mae
Oh Cassi Mae

It’s true I wanted a boy, but I wouldn’t trade you for the world, the greatest gifts are the ones we never foresee
I pray to God that he’ll give me the strength to be the man I need to be

You’ve got your momma’s eyes
And your grandma’s smile
It came at no surprise
That you have my heart
Cause you stole it on that day
The first time I held you on that day, Cassi Mae Oh Cassi Mae
It came at no surprise
That you have my heart
Cause you stole it on that day...
