We knew better.

It started out simple,
Fools struck gold.
In the form of love,
In our youth,
And we had it all.
Dramatic,
Forbidden
But we knew better.
You held me the way,
A tree hugs the earth.
I was your life,
You were mine.
But somewhere along the line,
We lost our way.
Bitten by snakes,
We let the poison set in
And eat away at the flesh that joined two hearts together.
But if someone had tried to tell us we end up like this,
We'd laugh in their face,
Cause we knew better.
They didn't know the strength of our love,
We thought we were invincible.
So we became cruel to one another,
Cause we knew neither of us would budge.
No matter how hard of a push,
We'd mend our love.
We'd be falling asleep together that same night.

They didn't know how many times,
We promised forever.
If someone told me five years ago,
We'd be here now.
I'd collapse in fear.
Cause you held me the way,
A tree hugs the earth.
You were my life
And I was yours.

Fools struck gold,
We knew better.
