okami no kujo

Bright wolf rabid moon bit me mad
barking fever from tawny lungs so fierce
tracking uphill by scent in forests dense foliage
wounded hunkered prey downwind

pick up the pace as the wild narrows slumber
the last encounter in open fields standing your ground
fight or flee in soil planted firm
tell me would you bleed for thee

i could eat you with just my rabid eyes
the hunters sought my pelt as trophy
their tainted trap carcass i kick back
i die proud in trillium's touching song
so point me out for all to see

this frontier is not my final trial
i lick bleeding wounds trailing
called home to these hills
mountain memories of east Tennessee

red wolf ...
red wolf...
lay dying by the stream
breathing shallow
far from callow
relict
time caught up with me

Spruce fir standing
in mists summit at Clingmans dome
Southern Appalachia ate my soul
archaic hearts poisonous when raw, but edible after cooking
