Ode To The Self Righteous or Christ Complex
Lay down your ammunition
Say a sacred prayer
Sail on to freedom
I will meet you there
Lay your crown of thorns on me
Hang me from the cross
But if you find yourself alone
It will not be my loss
If revenge is what you seek
You can always have my blood
Cry on me for forty nights
And drown me in the flood
Construct a cairn of stones for me
What more can I do
Bury me in apathy
And drive those nails through
Throw out the spear of destiny.
From me you'll draw no pain
Desecrate my body
What more can you gain
You can hold my soul for ransom
But my heart it will not break
There's nothing you can steal from me
Nothing left to take
If sadness is so sweet
You can take it by the hand
Lay beneath the heavens
Make angels in the sand
Erect a broken slab for me
And I will find my shepherd
Shun me from society
I'll gladly bathe with lepers
Before me stands a saint
With a child in her arms
An operatic symphony
To hell with all your charms
A tragedy in waiting
You're Jezebel reborn
A sinner and a sadist
Between them I am torn
Contempt for those before me
And pride for those ahead
It doesn't really matter
If you consecrate the bread
There was once a time
When you were my guiding light
You'd lie to me in spades
To get me through the night
Say a sacred prayer
Sail on to freedom
I will meet you there
Lay your crown of thorns on me
Hang me from the cross
But if you find yourself alone
It will not be my loss
If revenge is what you seek
You can always have my blood
Cry on me for forty nights
And drown me in the flood
Construct a cairn of stones for me
What more can I do
Bury me in apathy
And drive those nails through
Throw out the spear of destiny.
From me you'll draw no pain
Desecrate my body
What more can you gain
You can hold my soul for ransom
But my heart it will not break
There's nothing you can steal from me
Nothing left to take
If sadness is so sweet
You can take it by the hand
Lay beneath the heavens
Make angels in the sand
Erect a broken slab for me
And I will find my shepherd
