Lava take me back

She sacrificed herself
blood and pain
running down paintings
perched on stone
grinding naked flesh
soft
as the silent night

Catrinia is born
amidst dia de los muertos
her silk robe  
slips off into the wading pool
anointed in oils
orange blossom lilacs

brush strokes flowed like water
amidst the rain

red brought fourth the fire
crimson
flowed from her eyes  
like a virgin
being thrown to the lava gods

monsters
sounded in the deep

men crumbled at her feet
 she walked among them as a god
greater than any deity they worshiped before
brought before the sacrificial stone
summoners circle sat chanting      

and the ugly duckling cried no more
