When we live beside this stream

I wish we could stop, just here,
in the low light that casts shade on your face,
Where you giggle quietly in your sleep and I roll
Over the snapshots of the day,
You cruising on furniture, sharing my pancakes,
Pulling leaves from the plant pots, stroking my face,
Will I know, until I know,
The feelings you'll feel for me in twenty years time
When this past is passed
And we're two adults, yet you're still my child
Who stole my balance and replaced it with endless expanse?
It's not easy, taking out my heart, giving everything to you
But it's a price I'll pay, days upon days.

And to your father?
I love him like the world could collapse in his eyes,
I trust him on any plain, on any time frame, on any topic,
You can't imagine what you solidified, just by breathing,
You can't imagine what you bestowed on us both, little plant, my dear unfurling creature.

So to the end I will toil, I will wander, skip and dance, I will flame and fury and feed, I will lift my hands, extend my heart, give you both the energy and efforts of my blood, my womb, my mind, journey with grace and love and faith and patience.
I've got the end and the beginning right here, where we belong, where we are safe.
