The lady in the photograph III

I told her that when I was young
Everything was in black and white
Every thing was Charlie Chaplin silent
Even the sun was grey
The flowers in the park
The forest trees
Fields of corn
Clothing grey
Even wedding dresses
And rainbows
People were grey too in their skin
And the close they had on
And there mood melancholic

Those in power tried sepia
Now we had grey and brown
Or gloom and shit if you will
It didn’t help
People felt greyish
People felt like shit
The despair was palpable
I thought my life was over
And had arranged the time and place
On a dark hill on a dark night, no grey

Then you arrived and things changed
Rescued for the deepest dungeon was I
Saved for my dark brooding depression
I looked at your photograph, it was in colour
And as I looked deep into your eyes colour
And warmth surrounded me, dim at first
Then through your light brighter and brighter
Then through your love, vivid and truly alive
Within days of feeling your love the full spectrum
All the colours of the rainbow and more besides

I thought I was past loving and being loved
And you; lady in the photograph taught me
It was not so, that I was loveable and did deserve
The love she offered to give with no price
I had forgotten what it was to be truly loved
I had forgotten what it was to love and adore
But not any more

The sheer brightness and beauty of her poetry
The wonderful smile and cute little face
The love she offers this once husk of a man
My friends I am smitten, spoken for
The lady in the photograph is mine
And she knows clearly that I am hers
I cannot fail to say it it loud and clear
I love her so, so much
