[ SK ] The Man Who Would Have Been King

not for lack of trying      
My best writing?          
         
Patience thinner;      
   
severely lacking       
         
horror story in and of itself---        
hardly exciting to say the least        
         
For decades, notions about    
authoring books, preconceived        
got in the way of everything        
I wished to communicate;        
         
a Saint Bernard of a Cerberus        
beast rabidly guarding the gate;        
hounding the entrance        
to my own private Hades        
         
and often relieving itself on        
the fire hydrant of my salvation        
         
until Poetry eventually rescued me        
with melodies swiftly hammered out        
in a wind chime of a keystrokes        
         
and benefit of a letter "N"        
         
Number One Fan        
at my side with the sharpest axe        
ready to cleave unecessary words        
keeping me honest        
but more importantly        
         
on my toes
