Shadows (a collaboration with jadedembers)

Do you hear that scratching?
It's an all encompassing sound
Like nails on a chalkboard
It burrows into your ears,
the persistent scratches...
It's initiating a uneasy racing mind.
Its like riding a broken rollercoaster
The unnerving scratching...
Becomes silent when attempts are made to seek its origin.
Do you see those flickering shadows all around?
Its enveloping the mind in despair
Forcing us onto our knees
Needs us to hate them,...
because that's how they fall in love
Leaving us betwixt and between,
hoping loving those flickering shadows...
will mean freedom...
will make us whole, but...
we both know falling in love with the shadows is willingly diving into the unknown.

But all it takes is one caress
Our skin willing to receive
All it takes is one gentle touch
A feeling that you'll never leave

Blood and roses in still air
The fragrance from waiting shadows
Their luxuries of food, the aftermath of love
Fade slowly from the grasp of memory
A woman's scent eludes me
Leaves me wandering, adrift, alone
Then hunkered with the shadows, waiting by the phone
These shades dance and mock me
A reminder that ecstasy remains a pipe dream
A pipe that has long since grown cold
The shadows claim I'm lacking taste
But little do they know
My world turns without the sweet
The familiarity of a meal at home
I only part my lips, lick off the ash
Continue to exist where only shadows roam

Seeing you slip further...
into the shadows.
Whispers...
its not long until they come for me.
Chivalrous some might mutter
Sinister chivalry isn't to be admired
Running into your arms
Loosing myself inside your embrace
Kissing you until I can't comprehend t the difference between
Your touch...
And the shadows.
