The Parking Lot Empties

I work, among a sea of ladies:
Cool people, yet I'm not 'of them' it seems,
'Tis too much to ask, to know only one;
To laugh with them, and join in their fun.
But they do not want to know me it seems,
Sad, I stand alone, like a freak.
I know it's crazy and that I shouldn't be
But I am as I watch them with envy.
On the out they won't have me I'm a geek
But inside - I am dying to meet.
But not just about love, mere connection,
Hard though when awkwardness is your diction;
The store people done for the day now,
To talk with them 'bout life I don't know how.
Maybe tomorrow I'll be more savvy;
Closing time, the parking lot empties.

A poem about social awkwardness and anxiety but wanting to reach out at the same time.  And working in a mall ....

Written in Epigram format.
