Friendship is a good thing; You never know what it can lead to, especially if his "friend" has feelings for him too that he might not know about. Enjoyed this poem! :)  

Thank you for commenting Scarlet. I am a bit behind in comments but just to give you the background on this poem, here is the basic story. I will post more of the 40 some-odd poems I wrote for her over that time. Many have already been posted, but still have several more. Her name is Lisa and I mention her by name in several of them. We started out as friends in the Spring of 82 when I was in college in Jersey. She was 17 and still in high school. I liked her but she was involved in a bad relationship. She was always asking my advice, which I admit was tained because I had my own desires flairing up, but she came to rely on my friendship and I was at a loss how to alter the situation. I was still dating someone else and after that ended she had already ended the old relationship and found someone new. We were still close, but I couldn't wait, found another girlfriend and thought that would be the end of it. She didn't know I wanted to be with her at that point. Eventually, after the other girlfriend went by the wayside, we got into a conversation where I was leading up to asking her out when she suddenly realized I had more feelings for her than friendship. She asked me straight out, did I have romantic feelings for her and I told her yes I did.
The line in this poem "Yet between my ears your reply still thunders" refers to that moment, but is more thouroughly explored in the poem "Better Left Unsaid", which I have not yet posted, but will have to now that I have brought it up. I finally let go in 1989 and we were able to become true friends. Though we have since drifted apart since she got married, I do wonder what's become of her.

I relate to that. But for me it was a man almost 50 years older...a long time ago. I never said a word because I was not in a position to..but I relate in this poem.
