Awaken the snow
One year ago this winter, I survived.
We had much in common, the cold and I,
blocking out the sun, bare and exposed;
like the earth, I could not grow.
My heart was fragile as I slept
and the sun no longer shone.
I slipped away with every breath
And felt the past spread through my bones.
This year, quiet saddness falls with snow.
I feel the sting of every somber flake.
And when my tears have turned to frost,
I will name them beautiful.
I will be awake.

those hardships only make us stronger,
or maybe just more stubborn. Either way, I truly
appreciate the comment
and I'm happy you've decided to come by.

Much melancholy amidst the splendid backdrop of falling snowflakes in Winter.
Will the present be as chilling to the bone as the past has been? Only time will tell. Build a fire and thwart the Oracle of fate...

There is so much beauty in frost and snow...the iridescent shimmer and reflective quality is breathtaking. You use such beautiful imagery to imbue your tears with as they fall upon the page. To be cold, and then to feel warmth and thaw...only to feel cold once more...it is a doubly painful feeling. And this is what I'm left feeling with this poem. So beautiful and so sad

Breathtaking, yes, it is that, as well as painful
and that thaw equally so.
I really appreciate your taking the time for such thoughtful comments, Ashen one, I always enjoy hearing them.

Sweet Kasai...these lines sting just as you wanted us to feel them...that thaw, as relieving as it may be to arrive can cause the most prickly pain when melting a thick layer which has settled there for some time...poignant as always, cutting in the most delicate way....much love to you, my friend

Maybe the thaw is more painful after being numb,
but there it is, just as lovely, if not more.
Such an amazing lady you are, dear Taryn,
Thank you so much for leaving more beautiful smiles on my pages...

It's very pretty, I like the pencil sketch, I used to do art and sketch too, I like how the poem has a winter feel...

Thank you for that, PR.
Used to do art? Poetry is an art, of course, but perhaps
you'll pick up your pencil for a sketch again sometime...

Very descriptive and beautifully expressing your withdrawal, pain and solitude. May spring be upon you soon.
