what happens when I lose you
I feel like I am losing you.
Your fingertips barely grasp mine
and my memories resemble
a channel that doesn't come in clearly.
I barely am able to make out your face
maybe just an outline
drawn in the snow..
and I can't tell you
how cold I feel.
cold and alone.
life gets easier
when you're lonely,
there's no one to blame,
no shame, just one day
following the next
a redundancy of weeks and months
and the summation is life.
a lonely life is easy,
it's just finding a reason
to continue
that is difficult.

Very well expressed with feelings I can relate to.
But really, from my own perspective, a lonely life is not so easy. I've had one for a very long time and it has not been easy, not one day in the past 30 years has been easy. Sometimes it seems less hard than being with someone and the dream is that it will be wonderful when I am, but everytime I have been, it's been nearly as bad as when I was alone, sometimes worse. I think what makes life easy or hard is on the inside. I think it comes from parenting. My family never expressed love or much emotion at all. Now I have to write poetry so as not to seem like an android.
Why do you feel you cannot tell the person you feel slipping away from you that you feel this way? If you don't, you most surely will. Are you afraid that reaching out can be any worse than remaining silent? I can only speak for myself and if I found out someone loved me and I didn't know, well, I'd have to write a poem and call it something like, "Unloved Alone but She Loved Him" and then regret another love that passed by unfulfilled.
There was a girl in high school that I had a huge crush on, she was voted the prettiest girl in the school. I never told her, at least not until over 20 years later and she went down the wrong path. So 20 years too late I told her and she reminded me of the time we had been talking about how you should always tell the other person how you feel about them and how she was trying to tell me she liked me and wanted to date me. Later that year, she dated an older guy who got her into drugs. Her life was a complete mess from there on out. So how do you think I felt? There she was telling me she liked me, would have dated me and then everything went downhill from there. I could have dated the prettiest girl in the whole school, maybe have found the love of my life and kept her from going through a lot of terrible things. I messed up both of our lives by not listening to what she was saying to me in 10th grade during study hall. I recall that day like it was yesterday. It kills me. So if you have something to say, SAY IT!

It's more like it's there but slipping away. I do plan on a very serious talk over the next couple days. Life gets easier for the simple reason I don't have to compromise; I'm too much of a control freak. Thanks for the ear and the like. Sorry things didn't work out for you with your high school crush.
