Stars of the Night
Stars in the Night
Dedicated to my beautiful children:
Kristyl, Zak and Jacob
The truest love one can find
Is the love of a child, by design
No expectations, just love in their eyes
Always gentle and full of surprise
You hold them close, to your breast
When they grab your finger that's the best
Sometimes they cry, so you caress
Singing to them softly, till they rest
Gently rocking their tears away
In this moment, forever I could stay
But soon they grow, like weeds in a garden
Teaching them manners, like excuse me and pardon
I look at my children, what do I see
Just newer and better versions of me
I could not be prouder of these children of mine
They've grown up stronger in these hard times
With hearts full of joy and minds full of wit
Without them this poem would not have been writ
So cherish your children, hold them tight
For they are the stars that shine in the night
