I Wonder

As I look at the stars,
I wonder if you wonder why
I’m terrified to drive at night.
I wonder  if you wonder why
I hate the smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol
on the breathe of men I’m not interested in.
I wonder if you wonder why wood floors scare me
to the point of tears because
they harbor so many memories I don’t want to remember.
I wonder if you wonder why I don’t want to remember.
I wonder if you remember.
But you probably don’t.
Remember
I hate the sound of jingling keys.
They make me so nervous I can’t even speak.
Please.
Think.
I need you to remember me.
I know it’s doesn’t count if I never said no but
you never asked if I ever said yes.
Please remember.
Why don’t you remember?
Is it the alcohol and cigarette smoke
on the breathe of a man I wasn’t interested in?
Is that why you don’t remember?
