WE ALL BEGIN UNDERGROUND (a cicada's tale)

I'm not certain that I would call it birth
what we are and become beneath the earth
burrowing blindly beneath the soil
enduring the ages as we ceaselessly toil
There's nothing to see in the dark underground
through the countless blind years, that I've found
spending seemingly endless hours
feeding on the tangled roots of the unseen trees
which tower up towards the skies above this dark dismal tomb
sucking the nutrients from the buried tendrils of survival
forever awaiting sweet sunlight's arrival
to finally break out of this confining womb
The days and the months and the years become longer
as we grow stronger and stronger and STRONGER!!!!!!!!!
until we finally experience true birth
and emerge from beneath the earth
to shed our childish skin
revealing what we truly are within
transformed into our awaited true form
We become a true CICADA!
Flying in a clumsy absentminded frenzy
with glorious shrieks piercing the sky
perching upon the highest branches of those mighty trees
which were once only fantasy's memories
To mate and to die
To finally see
within a few short days....
a few short weeks, perhaps....
for what seems to me to be eternity.....
Oh, to finally live and to die and be free
through what my cicada eyes can finally see
