the court of hearts

your silence cut me
a sharp blade
drug across my emotions

& i waited for you to say something
anything
but you kept still

left to stew
i brood on my mistakes
giving too much of myself
while you remained stoic

an inpenetrable fortress
where i would be executed for trespass
should i enter your court of hearts

& like a fool i kept talking
telling you all of my secrets
you heard every last one

sometimes i would get a nod of approval
that would keep my feelings flowing
then for months nothing

& i feel you wait on me
when i go silent

you know i'll talk
& keep your ego fed
i've come to the end
i have no more secrets to tell you

& the ones I have left
are mine to keep
