My head is a bomb
My eyes puffy and red
I never imagined it would end
His lyrics kissed me gingerly
Got me through the pain
Traveling back roads alone in the rain
His voice danced on my flesh
My soul would beat with his heartbreakers
A true storytelling music maker
Sharing his gift with the world
Leaving us far too soon
Look up, he'll be rocking on the moon

Tommie, your poem prompted me to look at the news and I am truly heartbroken by his death. I'm going up stairs, shut the door, and rock to "Hard Promises."
This stanza is so beautiful in its sincerity and imagery:

Petty was one of my favorites and I miss him already. He was a songwriter, and poet. I read the lyrics to "Free Falling" and I'm blown away. "The vampires turn left down Ventura Boulevard." Wow! This is a fine tribute to one of rock's true artists. Thank you Tommie Lynn!
