Tom and a Mockingbird

There is a mockingbird that lands on his
Windowsill
Shrieks blood curling screams at Tom every
Morning
“Get up! Get up! she screams in layered pitch
It echoes in Tom’s
Head
So, one-day Tom starts mocking the mockingbird
Until
The irony is so thick, it drips into the mockingbirds
Cognizance
“Shut the fuck up! Shut the fuck up” she retorts
Then like a magnificent soaring B-52, she dives at
Poor Tom’s head
And just as sudden she flies off
Lands on spruce tree’s branch
One eye cockeyed
She begins to sing, like a sparrow
She sings to Tom of the coming of spring
Tom hears the words in his head-
And forgets what the beef was about in the first
Place-
