When a Woman
Loves a Man
she unfurls wings
he never knew he had
heals crippled
blades of scapula
endured for years
helps him Become
unto the world's end
if that's where he led
When a Woman
Loves a Man
she tends his garden
prunes stunted growth
with reassuring belief
roots out discouragement
sows hopeful seeds
under a sun dial to show
how shadows guide Us
When a Woman
Loves a Man
she doesn't play victim
acting a spoilt little girl
who couldn't have her cake
and eat it too, so no one can
scripting dramatic throes
of gossip and verse
for public attention
casting scenes of guilt
for a sympathetic audience
to manipulate production
When a Woman
Loves a Man
she accepts responsibility
prays taking a chance
doesn't end painfully
in the bed she chose
When a Woman
Loves a Man
she recognizes patterns
long before he does
Yet she makes no demands
for change, instead
politely excuses herself
from the table when Love's
no longer being served
Holds her head with dignified grace
reminding him exactly why
he loved her in the first place
and, you can believe
any future regret he admits
would be having allowed
such a Lady
to have ever left
~

"When a Woman"
The title brilliantly draws me in. I want to READ!
"Loves a Man
she unfurls wings
he never knew he had
heals crippled
blades of scapula
endured for years
helps him Become
unto the world's end
if that's where he led"
Such beautiful imagery evoked here. Angels come to mind through association; this gives our man room for growth enough to accomplish extraordinary things.
Speaking of growth .....
"When a Woman
Loves a Man
she tends his garden
prunes stunted growth
with reassuring belief
roots out discouragement
sows hopeful seeds
under a sun dial to show
how shadows guide Us"
Solid metaphor throughout until we hit the "sun dial".
It's like a curve ball; makes you stop and think. I like the use of interference with light being used as a guiding force instead of just light itself in darkness, similar to the Three Kings following the Star of Bethlehem.
"When a Woman
Loves a Man
she doesn't play victim
acting a spoilt little girl
who couldn't have her cake
and eat it too, so no one can
scripting dramatic throes

casting scenes of guilt

Definitely, because that's not Love. That's a load of NONSENSE that any man in his right mind will walk away from.
"When a Woman
Loves a Man
she accepts responsibility
prays taking a chance
doesn't end painfully
in the bed she chose"
Love is always risky in the eye of the beholder, especially for those who have been hurt in the past.
"When a Woman
Loves a Man
she recognizes patterns
long before he does
Yet she makes no demands
of change, instead
politely excuses herself
from the table when Love's
no longer being served
Holds her head with dignified grace
reminding him exactly why
he loved her in the first place
and, you can believe
any future regret he admits
would be having allowed
such a Lady
to have ever left"
If you recognize a desire to change someone, then you don't love that person for who they really are ..... and thus are better off ending the relationship.
But that does not mean you shouldn't express disappointment if you notice Love faltering. Give him a wake up call.
BRAVO from beginning to end. * insert clapping hands here *

Re: Re. When a Woman
Wow! I Loved the critique! And that the only suggestion was a wake-up call if he needed it! [/Love]
I'm glad you enjoyed the curve ball of the sun dial - it kinda was for me too, as it came out of left field! I Love the Three Kings comparison. Star of Wonder Star of Light . . . xo
Right? Love always offers a choice: accept or depart. If you don't like something leave it already. As adults we all know the risks involved, and the chances we take with opening ourselves up and Loving someone. Looking back only transforms you into a bitter pillar of salt.
Thank you for your time and observations. Loved them! And for the RL Honor! 💜

Women like that are rare to find now-days, David. By all means allow inspiration to lead you! That's what poetry is all about! Happy you loved it!

"when a woman loves a man .."
I must admit that my initial response was
"don't flatter yourself .."
but that's men for you .. :)

Thank you, Graham.
Women with dignity and grace to let go and move on embed themselves deeply in a man's heart. . .where Wild Horses dare not tread.

reminds me of Bob Dylans, she breaks like a little girl!
out of context, however,
your poem speaks of emotional maturity in the sights of true love.

Love it.
Inspired me to write a 'response' to Rudyard Kipling's "If" (The nations's favourite poem in the U.K)
