Laying Everything Down

Lay it all on me because I am not going anywhere.
All the words you never said. All of the feelings
And emotions you have never felt before. I swear
That in the crowd of moving people many ceilings
Have fallen, but you and I are still always standing
Right here. All of the floors have been trampled on.
Every foundation is crumbling. We are demanding
Respect and honesty because we deserve it. Gone
Are the days of disrespect and discontent. I will
Gladly be your shield in the onslaught of outrage
And when the world is against you. Taking a pill
Will do nothing to ease the war and locked cage
We are embattled in our minds. Our spirits need
Protecting. Our minds need to be watered so they
Can grow. It is the pain and suffering that will bleed
Out onto the sidewalk. Some people will only convey
That everything is going to be fine, but those are
The people who do not know there is more behind
The pretend smile and laugh. They think every star
Will always shine, but they do not know unkind
Words and actions that are fake. They never had
To cry behind closed doors or keep an appearance
Although they are secretly being depressed and sad
On the inside. I wish you and I have clearance
For takeoff so we can get out of here. You and me
Against the world. There is no other place I want to be.
