Ankh

You've always folded
oxygen into bones
formed arterial roadways
from minute corpuscles;
organisms of vertebrates
historical constituents
basic particles of matter

Once We knew of Ankh
the lock it unrolled;
alphabets of Wisdom
tattoed across papyrus

Meaning was Ours to own
chronicles of knowledge

Lifetimes and remembrance
embossed upon retinas
shifting recall; altered DNA
double-helixed coil of memory
archived in the annals of Us

The crack of conception;
Holy unction, communion
from Spirit to bronzed flesh
onyx'd eyes colored reflection

We drank one from the other's
presence; marked remembrance

We knew then
what we grasp to know now

What was it we didn't have to say
through settling sun and dust
no more than 10 feet between Us

wasn't it . . .

Love never forgets
the image of Itself
