ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL

What's wrong with you..
If you ask me; openly and honestly
this is what I will say,
I have a mental disorder
Is it a disability?
NO, I don't see it that way

My mind is complex from decades of
abuse and trauma throughout my life
but it doesn't stop me from being a loving mother, neighbour, friend or wife
I do not make friends with ease, due to
trust issues and hyper vigilant anxiety
I also feel the need to
 constantly people please

Do I take medication?
No I do not, and that my dear friends
is my choice
One size does not fit all I'm afraid
Complex PTSD has a rather diverse voice
What works for one does not work for all
for a giant cannot wear a garment sized extra small
We must not allow ourselves to be judged or compared to others
Many survivors cope better hiding in bed beneath the covers

I go to work everyday
it is my escape from reality
others choose to self medicate
whether it is prescription or green
to escape the pain
we all have various coping skills
a constant battle to keep ourselves sane
Very little is known about complex PTSD
most of us survivors are labeled
Cray Cray with others often stating
"that bitch is crazy"

One size does not fit all
is the best way to describe
how each of us cope to protect
and nurture our inner vibe
our inner child
damaged and broken
too scared and battered to ever be
outspoken...
