Trust
Trust isn't feeling
or emotion:
it's a choice evoking both;
an experienced step
toward Belief
"For [if] we walk by Faith,
not by sight,"
Should not Our Trust
be equal to that?
~
Italics Holy Bible, 2 Corinthians 5:7

I am totally behind about 90% of this poem - it's clever and it's true - the bible verse kinda jars with me a little as I have always thought that trust is a deliberate thought and requires no faith. I do not trust easily and I have to see somebody acting in a trustworthy manner before I would trust them. Maybe having trust issues makes me that way?
Having said all that it is still a sublimely clever and honest write and I like that :-)

Re: Re. Trust
David, Trust me when I say this, I am Queen of the Anti-Trust Kingdom. Or, rather, was, until I had a revelation from the Universe.
"the bible verse kinda jars with me a little as I have always thought that trust is a deliberate thought and requires no faith."
You are absolutely correct. To Trust someone is a decision, not a feeling. And it doesn't require Faith, just a Decision. The feeling of emotion follows the decision over Time ( pending nothing happens to violate that decision, e.g. - a lie, betrayal, etc. ).
"I do not trust easily and I have to see somebody acting in a trustworthy manner before I would trust them. Maybe having trust issues makes me that way?"
Yes; it does. You've been lied to and hurt. So was I. Therefore, our filter views other potential relationships in that light. We look for the most minute thing that we can say, "AHA! I KNEW it!" And by that very statement, "I KNEW it!" We have called it forth into our lives by virtue of expecting ( re: knowing ) it would happen. Yes?
The relationship was practically doomed to begin with via our suspicions. Negative energy will present things that aren't what they seem to clog the filter, blinding us to truth.
It takes a strong, honorable man or woman to stand with you through those storms unscathed, to prove to you that they can be trusted by loving you at your worst. By holding on through the onslaught of arsenal and grenades being slung.
All my Life I've been waiting for the feeling and / or emotion so I could Trust. Wrong. The message I received from the Universe during the pinnacle of the eclipse was just that. If we can step out on Faith, sight unseen . . . then why can you not with Trust by the mere decision to do it? And allow the feeling / emotion to follow as it does thought.
What's the worse that can happen? If You fall we gotcha. If you're hurt, we gotcha. If you're scared, we gotcha. Bottom Line, we gotcha. So let the man Love You.
Therefore, I guess what I'm saying is this: a Decision is to Trust what Faith is to Sight: necessary to achieve either.
And I'm not lucky as someone recently said. They just have no idea how long I've prayed. And I'm praying for you too, David. And EVERYONE else. Because without Love it's a bitter, distrusting world.
But with Love, it's a peaceful, trusting one. So it begets itself. ❤

Thank you for taking so much time in writing this response. I am fascinated by what you have said and I think I understand the poem better. Sometimes I forget that I am reading something with my own experience and opinions colouring the interpretation :-) "without Love it's a bitter, distrusting world." Not a world I would choose to live in. Unfortunately it isn't always as simple as choice. I can see what you are saying about faith, but I lost mine so long ago I find it impossible to find, similarly hope, a requirement of faith :-) thank you for caring :-)

I'm sorry you've lost Hope, David. The fact that many here care for you as you are is evidence it exists. Every day is a new day. Every moment a new chance for it to manifest.
Don't give up.

I think you nailed the definition of Trust on the head.
I also love how you turned the tables on the reader by posing the question, almost putting us into the context of a private conversation between partners.
Am I right in understanding that feelings are the physical counterpart of emotion?

"Am I right in understanding that feelings are the physical counterpart of emotion?"
That's a very interesting question that in all honesty I haven't really thought about. I know that emotion / feeling follows thought, so you have 17 seconds to alter a negative thought before you begin feeling and / or become emotional about it.
Are You referring to intuition as feeling?

No, not Intuition. I see that as more Logic's sibling.

Re: Re. Trust
That's interesting because I've always considered Logic akin to Reason. More of a thought process or problem solving method as opposed to mathematics.
To me feeling is Intuition while emotion is, as Spock would put it, "Highly illogical!"
