Breathless Dancing

I watched as they held hands and walked on to the dance floor, it sent a jolt down my loins. I could not identify what it was but I felt like I needed to be close to her and I didn’t give a shit that she was there with another man. I grabbed my wife’s hand and asked her to dance, she was surprised because I rarely dance at weddings…I rarely dance at all.

She had her hand in his hand and around his arm, her chin was resting on his shoulder, and her body was pressed against his…again a jolt in my abdomen. I had known her for years and never had I felt this need to be near her. She swayed to the music, and even though I was dancing with my wife I could not take my eyes off of her. The lights we pulsating, matching the beat of the music (In the Air Tonight, by Natalie Taylor). The smoke machine began to fog up the room. Her alabaster skin made her glow in the dark so I was still able to watch her. She was frowning, and even though she was gracefully dancing it appeared as if she was just going through the movements. Like an empty shell…

Her eyes shifted in the dark and found mine staring at her, she smiled, probably thinking that I had just looked at her for a moment-certainly not knowing that I had been staring for over a minute. She didn’t look away. The smile began to fade her lips parted and I felt her returning my gaze. I didn’t want to stop looking at her, and she didn’t stop looking at me. We both moved to the beat in the arms of another and I felt as if we were really dancing with each other. I moved my hands to my wife’s waist, she moved hers towards the back of her husband’s neck and lifted her head so her cheek rested on his. Still staring at each other the song began to wind down. As the lights came on I noticed her eyes were wet with tears and immediately felt the need to hold her…

She shifted her head to the right and left the room… I escorted my wife back to her seat and followed her out the door. Her husband had not noticed her upset…fucking jackass!

Out in the hallway I found her leaning on the railing looking out over the lobby below. I approached her from behind, placed my hand on the middle of her upper back, and found her shaking. She immediately turned to look at me and was breathing heavily...

“What’s wrong,” I asked.

“I …can’t breathe…” she said. Her lips parted slightly and her magnificent chest moving up and down between words.

“What happened?”

Almost whispering she said, “I feel you…staring at me, Hamid…and it feels like fingertips all over my skin.”

If only this were true, I thought to myself…

“It’s torturous… feeling you looking at me like that…” she said with a pleading look in her eyes.

I lowered my gaze and said, “I’ll stop if it’s causing you pain?”

“That’s the torturous part,” she said finally having caught her breath, she leaned her head over to catch my lowered eyes in hers, “I don’t ever want you to stop looking at me like that…”

My heart stopped in my chest, a single tear falling down her cheek as she finished her words. I lifted my hand to her face and caught it at her jaw line with my thumb and move the palm of my hand onto her face. Her lips were parted just enough for her hot breath to heat up my wrist. I looked deeply at her face, like I never had a chance to do before. I leaned in and rested by nose on hers, moving both of my hands onto her face. We both closed our eyes, breathing in each other’s exhale. My fingertips clutching the edge of her veil, wanting to rip it and everything else off of her body.

She put her palm onto my abdomen, and the jolt that I had felt before was now a burning fire. She moved her face and my hand fell. She rested her cheek on mine and embraced my body like it had never been held before. Her fingers were on the back of my shoulders, fingertips pressing into my skin. My arms had folded her whole body into mine. A tear once again falling down her face and wetting the cheek that we shared. Both of us now unable to breathe.
