A Fool In Love
Broken skin and a broken heart
Blood drips in time with the tears
While they’re off at the bar you should pack up and go
But you’ll stay there and take it some more
I just don’t understand
How you can stay there
Expecting something different to happen this time
Than has happened in the past
When you should know it just won’t be so
Only a fool stays for another beating
So I’ll call you a fool
As you pick up the pieces of broken furniture
And clean up so he won’t be mad when he gets home
Adding more makeup
To a face too thickly made
It makes me weep to know you’re there
You’re just a fool in love with the one who hurts you so much
And too scared to break away and run

People stay in those relationships because they have some kind of deep rooted dependency upon the other party.
Sadly, many will not walk away from their abusive relationship because they'd rather endure, than end up destitute with nothing but the clothes on their back.
It takes strength & courage for a person to leave, and start all over again ! If she/ he isn't independent & financially secure, they won't leave.
Sadly, that's the gist of living in cyclic domestic abuse.

John...okay...I will take this not in first person as I usually do...lol....this is a sad truth for so many...both male and female...one breaking the other down leaving them un"whole"...when it comes to physical abuse, I will never be able to comprehend it but I certainly can comprehend emotional abuse...speaking personally, I always felt I could make a difference "someday"...."someday soon"....but yeah, no....finally the day came when I had to make a difference for myself...it is so very hard to admit defeat...I would imagine one involved with physical abuse feels the same...excellent ink...thought provoking...and painful to read...well done!
