She Flew Away

A tangle of string
A mess of balloons
And a simple dream
Of reaching the sky soon

A spool of thread
And a lifeless kite
Running and jumping
With all her might

She built her wings from cardboard, feathers and glue
And left them out to dry
Attached them to her shoulder blades
As she took to the skies

She used every chance she got
To get in the air
She consistently leaped
From steps to stairs

She climbed mountains to understand
Just what the bird’s saw
She didn’t care what would happen
If she were to fall

She skipped across oceans
To get a running start
Sprinting, searching and staring at the sky
While she hoped for the bed of clouds to part

To part and give way
To an infinite land
To live among the stars
It’s all part of her plan

She longed for the adrenaline
To taste the atmosphere
She wishes to be within the skies
So she could finally disappear

She hoped of becoming a firework
To blast off into the sky
To explode into a mass of sparks
And finally say goodbye

Say goodbye to the world
That didn’t care
Say farewell to the people
Who were never there

She decided to finally fly
Just like she said she would
Fly to a place that would take care of her
Better than the world ever could

She took a simple leap
‘Cause she knew she couldn’t stay
And that was the moment
She flew away
