Not For Kings

If one could die of loneliness surely I'd be dead by now
Or from a broken heart, there'd be no beating in my chest
So why do happy know-it-alls insist on giving me false hope
That my afflictions could mercifully free me from this hole

The dream of rising up so high beyond the walls surrounding me
Free of my cage, free of the pain, free of their repetitious laugh
That haunts my fragile mind, making nightmares of the cold reality
That no love will ever requite all that my broken orb has shown

Must be a story made for human hearts much weaker than my own
Not for kings like Kong who get shot down off high pedestals
With gawkers and picture clickers standing on his breast
One voice was heard to say, "T'was beauty, killed the beast"

But it wasn't true, it's not her fault he fell so far from the clouds
He knew the risks, knew they'd come and fire rounds to pierce his heart
He held on for dear life, held on to her in hopes that his undying love
Could fill his empty heart for his lonely life would never let him go

With that final thought within his brain he discovered he was right
For all his loneliness followed him beyond the soil placed on his grave
Down to a place he knew so well all the days he lived and walked alone
Where there is no beauty for which to fall, where his heart at last can rest in peace
