Pigeon on the road
It was Mothers-Day
the pigeon on the road
had left its home too soon;
they brought it to our party
water, corn, bread and love
was the day's concern.
It could not fly, in shock,
first ignored the food then
as day dragged by
corn and bread consumed.
Flapping wings, faith confirmed
stretching perch to perch
last night it struggled to a tree,
today cooing on an aerial
wished it would stay
yet we had reward enough
It was Mothers-Day.
Watched it stretch its wings,
beating time to the village clock
Children sad to see it go.
