MAGICAL MOTORING

(Inspired by the "Elegy for a Lost Object" competition)

Oh mystical, melodious
Fine four fendered friend
To where have you flown?
High and low have I looked
Maybe under the bed?
Or perhaps the sofa?
Fearing suffocation among rubbish
Of some malodorous trash bin
Buried there by the creepy candy man

As if from heaven you came
One December morn descending
White articulated wings spread
Polished silver bonnet gleaming
Poised for adventure
A time when fantasy reigned
And dreaming my vocation

Hour after hour transported
Along seashores of imagination
Cradled between fingers propelled
Envious little brother trailing behind
Like a despotic Baron
Screaming “I vont dat cah”
Happy relief from adult-sized pain

Dearly do I miss you
Would trade anything,
Even my baseball cards
In shoe box packed
To see, to touch you again
If one day a bang bang I hear
Running will I come toot sweet
A bientôt, mais pas au revoir
My pretty chitty
