empty skeletal hands reaching for the sun
bone can't feel when it's being burned
organs so desperate to function for another
hands accept other hands, regardless of whether they fit
there is pain in longing
when being alone is a fear
when loss is a fear
fingernails scrabble at the damp earth
always seeking an elusive companion
this massive world turns dark
when you turn your back to loneliness but find no one
