My Rant
My view on a composition reflects my view of life
I am not here to be the high minded expert of what poetry
is or isn't
The world or at least those in the so called "Western Society"
seem so bent on labeling "smut" and "indecency"
yet turn a deaf to the poverty, violent conflict resolution,
and their own inhumanity to other human beings
The tv is filled with violence
sports predicated on fighting
crowds after each other
violent language
found in the cartoons, movies, songs
Now dig what I am saying
for I am not a censor
no what I mean is someone
expressing sexual desire with consent and legal age
is the least of my worries
Not going to lash out at Tupac or Prince for suggestive lyrics
while good ole boys from the South glorify the Confederacy
or heap praise on a jerk like Oliver North
Should we also note the power of the Purple One's social commentary in "Sign O' The Times" or "Colonized Mind"? The innocence of "Starfish and Coffee"?
Better to have those destructive impulses in the open rather then festering in the dark
But do we really believe that human sexuality should be closeted and shun because someone is uncomfortable?
My sexual identity isn't threatened by another expressing her/his views
academia has proven that exposure to sexual images doesn't result in deviant behavior
It is the violence that we should be concerned about
as Lennon said "when you talk about destruction, you can count me out"

a lot of good points in a great train of thought.
personally, i'm okay with making people uncomfortable with my poetry,
all adults here (to some degree)
with the choice to click the back button when somethin' doesn't appeal to us;
more important things to be worrying about than explicit poems.

I'm not for censors....but being exposed to an over amount of violence-breeds violence...it has been glorified to extremes these days.
I've liked violent films, writes through the years....But I didn't let my kid watch them until She was older.
It is hard to get away from tv-wise
Sex is part of being human-else we would die out...it is natural.
Anger is natural...violence is taught.

The clarification on the violence in film is that it is depends on the script. Star Wars has a lot of violence in it, but most people can distinguish between reality and sci-if. Have to put "most", in because sadly we have worsened in terms of treating mental illness in a few critical ways.

Make love... not war was chanted some 50 years ago, when the sexual revolution was forthcoming. Some 52 years later... people are still struggling to liberate themselves, sexually and otherwise. Hmm. I think we live in a strange world, sometimes.
