Death Sentence
They who sit in judgement
Never suffer the penalties
They in their wisdom
Hand down to others
Had they to suffer similar
Maybe their decisions
Would be strangely different
A terminally ill baby
Lies dying in a hospital
It has one chance
Albeit an outside one
How could anyone
Just say no
Doctors and judges
Say no because the child
Is not theirs
With their wealth and power
They would move heaven
And earth to save it
It’s not their baby
Easily they say no
No, to the chance
This baby, this child
Sentenced to death
Humanity, where is your humanity
Any hope cruelly snatched away
Those doctors, those judges
Give me your first born
For me to take to
The executioner
And restore the balance

Whoa.
You've touched base on a very real issue, David. A very sad and unfortunate one for those suffering in poverty.
It's almost like it's a purge for the elite to be rid of the " lower class ".

People say these are scary times - I try to remember when times weren't scary in this regard - this was directly inspired by high profile British case of a baby being legally refused treatment. It's all so so sad :-( thank you for the read and your wise comments :-)
Re. Death Sentence
not sure where I sit on this
but I've known medical staff in similar
situations, where I believe
they would honestly much prefer for
the child to die with a little dignity
rather than to be dragged halfway around
the world,
where, to the best of their training and knowledge,
the child will suffer for longer and die
anyway ..
hell, I can't judge, I simply don't know ..

Yeah it's far from simple - I suppose I wrote this from a parents perspective - trying to put myself in their shoes - it is still odd to me that they talk about death with dignity for a baby but won't consider it for an adult I wish I knew too :-)

I have so many thoughts and feelings dashing around my cerebellum from this one. We live in a screwed up world, I'll say that much.

At this time I can only say that I love this write, I love you and Bravo! because I am desperately pressed for time, it's not that I don't want to say more like I normally would. I have been reading every poem over the past few days and having to multitask has fucked up my flojo. Please forgive this copy and pasted comment. Know this is killing me!!
