The Religion Thing
For years I railed against organized religion
I guess it wasn't drummed into me as a kid
Maybe it was a given by my parents to believe
My Mom was always asking for protection against evil
My Dad never spoke of God
He was in the worst parts of Europe in WW II
Happy to come home alive
He went about his business not saying much
I was always the pragmatic one
If I can't see it , I don't believe it
Today I've come around to different thinking
It's a personal choice
Your choice has nothing to do with me
Let's be good neighbors
Be the best people we can to help the oppressed
Nothing wrong with praying to a God or otherwise
I'm keeping my mouth shut
Your heart will always be your guide
Amen

I kinda want to agree with you, but that's as far as I can stretch. Poetry aside I no longer rail against religion the way I used to. I saw religious people as the oppressed that needed saving from evil men, but that was then. I now think that nobody is saveable, the religious, the non-religious, both march towards death just the same. I do hate a bully though and I do rail against any kind of bully :-)
I am old fashioned, my respect has to be earned :-)
excellent poem though, I wish you all the luck in the world :-)

I've struggled with this my whole life, more because I don't believe but always thought I should ..... Religious types must drink the kool aid as they are happy all the time while the rest of us are wallowing in the dark
Re. The Religion Thing
I am forever grateful that I was raised in a house where beating someone over the head with any holy book was forbidden. Instead, we were encouraged to research anything that we discover the Truth ourselves.
Good thoughts, Poet. The Heart is the Guide.
