Reborn

He makes a funny face
He winks unintentionally
He furls his brows
He laughs without jokes
He says “Gooooooooo!”
He says “Gaaaaaaaaa!”
And he sometimes says
“Mamaaa!” or “Dadaaa!”
He poohs and does Peepee
In his elasticated diapers
He farts without warning
He thinks it’s oh so funny
He can’t walk upright unless
He has someone to help him
He cant chew and all his food
Has to be a liquidised soup
He can’t feed himself
He can’t dress himself
Sometimes he makes me angry
He cries a lot, sometimes
He sobs, suddenly, he screams
I jump out of my skin
I would give up on him
Don’t think I haven’t
Thought about that
But I just can’t
I am not sure whether
I love him or not
I know I should
I am just not sure
That I really do
I do respect him though
He fought in two world wars
He lost an arm an eye
And half a leg, forced to
Swap them for medals
A POW, a hero
Such a brave man
A father, my grandfather
Still seeking adult dignity
