Tiger's Way

(a sonnet)

In dreams that seek the joy of finding you,
I lost the soul that fell to reason’s want.
The ghosts that held the life I never knew
Have fled to seek out more beguiling haunt.

Though briefest kiss might open heaven’s gate,
And briefest touch might bring out tears withheld.
With briefest strive might solve our wants’ debate,
With nights that strive to all desires quell.

But deserts stand as valleys dry as death,
Long roads where bandits hide to take their fill,
The harpy’s den where faith and doubt contest,
A demon’s gorge that feasts upon the will.

But in the dawn, I find the tiger’s way,
And know that soon I’ll be that tiger’s prey.
