Raining Scars

I was where I thought I was safe
In sleep
But I should remember that
There I'm still easy to reach
Far off from the world
But close to those who've hurt me
Those I've loved
Those I want to touch
Those who are only out for the kill
And this time was no exception

I woke up in sudden motion
Eyes flowing like the ocean
For no discernable reason
Except some bullshit you were speaking
Fragmented bits of speech
That you said years ago
I don't want to recall that
I have no interest in its presence
What it means or did not mean
If I misinterpreted
Or if auto correct would have saved me
I got my answer in your actions
So it really doesn't matter
The darkness is the only thing
That was concrete about that night
Your liquefied sincerity
I mistook for lasting light

There's tapping on my window
It's just the rain outside
And now it all makes sense
Why you came to mind so intense
The rain is talking to me in drops
Sort of how you dropped me
It's kind of like how I fell
Hard
And kind of like how you were
Cold
It's not the kind that cleanses
The kind that purifies and nourishes
It's the kind you seek shelter from
Because it could turn to hail at any moment
But I'm a risk taker
With a hopeful heart
So I went out to play
Till I fell apart

I got caught up in clouds of potential
They distorted my view
I'd been a friend to the rain
Long before you
And because you spoke its language
I tended to trust your torrents
I thought you knew the tenderness of droplets
And the magic of mist
The loving coolness of showers
How to sprinkle flames that persist
When they burn a little too hot
Turns out, you did not
All you had were flash floods
And damaging downpours
I guess the rain was here to remind me
So it spoke to me
Flowing inside me
Falling in poetry
Terrible timing
Maybe unknowingly
Eyes emulate the sky
When emotions take control of me

But I know I've got to wash away
Each remnant that was buried alive
And try to dry off
From these drips of you
It's raining scars tonight
But I will be alright
