[ Lesbian ] Poetry To Nurse The Wounded

       
My Dearest Genevieve,      
     
My hope is for this journal to find      
its way into your hands      
should I shuffle off the mortal coil    
     
Though loving you as just a friend      
left me wounded, I put on a brave face      
soldiering through the endless foray of    
late night conversations concerning men  
who've left you disenchanted with  
companionship altogether      
     
A casualty of our casual chats      
I am, never with enough courage      
to tell you what is now written here  
in amateurish literary attempts---       
     
that if I could, I would strap on this  
poetry and fuck you with it as if my life  
and your happiness were at stake      
     
long and tenderly      
     
or if you so fancied it, unforgivingly  
hard as a randy sailor on shore leave      
     
As our company is to be deployed  
near the front lines soon, know this---  
 
my Love for you is fierce and I will  
never leave this world or you alone in it      
without a fight
